When Lieutenant Harold J. Creaney, aged 37, of 79 Barrow-street, Coburg, area officer for West Melbourne district, was escorting a brrry cadet to the detention camp at Broadmeadows yesterday the cadet jumped out of the train at Essendon station, and made a dash for liberty. Lieutenant Creaney set out in pursuit, but tripped and fell, fracturing his right leg below the knee.
Two other military men who were on the platform captured the youth and took him to Broadmeadows. The injured officer was taken to Melbourne Hospital and admitted.
